Officers selected for Olmsted Scholar Program

  • Published
Six Air Force officers have been selected to participate in the Olmsted Scholar Program for the class of 2010.

Each year, the competitive program offers grants for two years of graduate study in a foreign culture to career line officers from all four branches of the U.S. military.

The following Air Force officers were selected from the 61 who applied for the program:

Maj. Scott Morgan--Bucharest, Romania
Capt. Daniel Rueth--St. Petersburg, Russia
Capt. Jonathan Airhart--Kiev, Ukraine
Capt. Christian Ogrosky--Beijing
Capt. Dean Berck--Rio de Janiero, Brazil
Capt. Victor Kent--Prague, Czech Republic

Olmsted scholars, nominated by their military services, enroll as full-time students and usually study in a language other than English while interacting with the residents of the countries in which they are living. They're expected to live on the economies of their host countries, travel widely and be connected to U.S. embassies or consulates only for necessary force protection and administrative purposes.

These scholars are part of a growing body of uniquely-educated officers, who, with the added dimension of their Olmsted Scholar experience, are a significant asset to the Air Force. Their education is being used effectively in key high-level assignments including NATO, joint commands and the Joint Chiefs.
