Maj. (Dr.) Christopher Calabria, officer in charge of the Wilford Hall Medical Center Immunizations Clinic, was selected to receive an American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Award. The award recognizes outstanding research published in the "Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology," or JACI, by a developing researcher.

Dr. Calabria's publication, "The GILL study: Glycerin-Induced Local Reactions in Immunotherapy," explains that the concern for local reactions should not be a reason to limit glycerin in allergy shots.

"The writing and presentation of the data were both praised," said Lt. Col. (Dr.) Michael Tankersley, chief of the Allergy/Immunology Department at Wilford Hall. "Dr. Calabria's report serves as an example for other fellows in training who aspire to publish excellent work."

The award will be announced in the upcoming issue of the JACI and Dr. Calabria will be formally recognized in March at the 2009 AAAAI business meeting in Washington, D.C.

"This is one of the biggest allergy meetings, and one of the biggest allergy journals, so I was very excited to have my work accepted," said Dr. Calabria. "It's a tremendous honor to have my paper accepted in the JACI and to be selected for this award."
