A team from the Air Force Personnel Center here successfully wrapped up phase one of the educational Spread the Word briefings Jan. 14 as officials educated Airmen at major commands and combatant commands.

AFPC officials paved the way for the next round of experts to begin phase two of Spread the Word as they will take personnel messages to Air Force members at more than 70 remaining Air Force bases.

The Spread the Word tour began last fall with Maj. Gen. K.C. McClain, the AFPC commander, and her briefing team using town hall-style meetings at MAJCOMs and COCOMs to educate Airmen about personnel issues and to get feedback from Airmen about the Air Force's many personnel programs.

"This has been a great investment already," General McClain said of phase one -- the global tour to all Air Force major and combatant command headquarters. "Our Airmen are hungry for information and opening this line of communication has been a terrific way to meet that need."

A four-person team, representing readiness operations, assignments, civilian personnel and personnel services, is already en route to the first stops on the eight-month, base-to-base tour. As in phase one, each briefer will be available for a question and answer session at the conclusion of the presentation.

"These Spread the Word visits are well worth the effort," said Lt. Gen. Richard Y. Newton III, the manpower, personnel and services deputy chief of staff. "Through the focused effort of the briefing teams, we are providing our Airmen a better understanding of what's happening in the manpower, personnel and services community. Conversely, the feedback we receive from these visits will, I'm sure, provide us invaluable insight so we in the A1 community can do our part to help ensure the Air Force can fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace."

Thousands of Airmen -- civilians, enlisted and officers -- have already attended Spread the Word briefings, gaining insight on how AFPC officials are constantly evaluating the existing and evolving trends to ensure the Air Force family is properly cared for, developed, trained and equipped for their mission.

Specific topics covered in the Spread the Word briefings include 365-day deployment options, the Global Air and Space Expeditionary Force tempo-banding system, civilian hiring procedures, and assignment processes for officers and enlisted Airmen.

"We are constantly seeking more efficient and effective ways to make sure we have the right people in the right place at the right time, from the frontlines to the home front. It's important that we continue to hear from you, our customer, to make that happen," General McClain said. "When the teams come visit your base, I encourage you to take advantage of their expertise and to let them know your thoughts."

Airmen can also e-mail their questions and feedback to stw.workflow@randolph.af.mil.

Locations, dates and times have been provided to wing leaders at all Air Force bases. Airmen should monitor their base's Web site, marquees and e-mails for briefing times. An electronic copy of the briefing should be available for download in February at the AFPC "Ask" Web site.
