Airman scheduled for court-martial at Academy

  • Published
Air Force officials here determined a case should proceed to a general court-martial against an Airman assigned to the 10th Medical Support Squadron here to begin Dec. 15 at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

An Article 32 hearing determined the case against Airman 1st Class Derick R. Thompson, who is not a cadet, should go to court-martial as he was charged with violations of four articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Specifications included sexual assault, providing alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 21, using a government-owned vehicle to purchase alcoholic beverages, and failure to obey an order from a superior.

Charges are merely accusations at this time. Airman Thompson is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. If Airman Thompson is found guilty of all charges and specifications, he faces a maximum punishment of a dishonorable discharge, 57 years confinement, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and reduction to the lowest enlisted grade of E-1.
