AAFES supports America's wounded warriors Published Nov. 7, 2008 DALLAS (AFNS) -- As part of November's Warrior Care Month, the men and women of the Army & Air Force Exchange Service are doing their part to recognize and support those who have sacrificed for their country. "With barber shops, fast food restaurants and stores with items to help pass the time at military hospitals such as Landstuhl Regional (Medical Center near Ramstein Air Base, Germany) and Walter Reed Army Medical Center (in Washington D.C.), AAFES is uniquely positioned to serve wounded warriors and their families," said Lt. Col. Dean Thurmond, AAFES' chief of corporate communications. "The relationship even extends beyond active duty as honorably discharged disabled veterans are granted a lifetime of unlimited exchange benefits." AAFES officials will raise awareness of Warrior Care Month resources through in-store radio and signage as well as other promotional materials at BXs and PXs across the globe. To simplify access to care, Department of Defense officials have created the Warrior Care Web Portal to serve as a portal to all warrior care resources. This site describes available resources and links users to the correct sources for additional information. Through it, servicemembers, their friends and families can easily identify and access care. Warrior Care Month is a DOD-wide effort aimed at increasing awareness of programs and resources available to wounded, ill and injured service members, their families and those who care about them.
