Oct. 12 airpower summary: Predator fires Hellfire Missile

Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations Oct. 12, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, an Air Force MQ-1B Predator fired an Air-to-Ground Missile-114 onto enemies of Afghanistan who were carrying a mortar in the vicinity of Mushan. A joint terminal attack controller declared the mission successful.

Near Qal-E-Naw, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles dropped guided bomb unit-31s onto enemy fighting positions. The JTAC reported the mission successful.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs performed shows of force near Lashkar Gah and Bagram to deter enemy activities. The missions were confirmed successful by the JTACs.

Coalition aircraft conducted shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Lashkar Gah, Sangin, and near Qal-E-Naw. The JTACs declared the missions successful.

Navy F/A-18E Super Hornets performed a show of force in the vicinity of Shurakian to deter enemy activities. The mission was reported successful by the JTAC.

F-15Es conducted shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Orgun-E and Nangalam. The JTACs confirmed the missions successful.

In total, 71 close-air support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Fifteen Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Three Navy and coalition aircraft also performed tactical reconnaissance.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 41 close-air support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided over watch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt enemy activities.

Twenty-seven Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Two Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance missions.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

About 140 airlift sorties were flown and 380 tons of cargo delivered, with more 3,700 passengers being transported. This included about 94,400 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.

On Oct. 11, Air Force and coalition aerial refueling crews flew 55 sorties and off-loaded about 3.7 million pounds of fuel to 286 receiving aircraft.
