Air Force Reserve exceeds recruiting goal Published Oct. 1, 2008 ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AFNS) -- Air Force Reserve recruiters signed up 8,390 people in fiscal year 2008, exceeding the goal by almost 5 percent. The additional recruits followed as the command met its annual goal of 8,000 on Aug. 28, some 33 days ahead of schedule. Col. Francis M. Mungavin, Air Force Reserve Command Recruiting Service commander, said while one year is finished, a new year has begun. "It's a huge accomplishment to exceed our goal like this," Colonel Mungavin said. "However, with the new fiscal year upon us, we go from heroes to zeroes. We start all over again." In fiscal 2009, Reserve recruiters must tally 8,800 recruits, a plateau higher than the three previous years. Colonel Mungavin said he sees nothing but success for his team's future. "We're going to do it," he said, "but it's going to be a tougher challenge than in previous years." The first two accessions for fiscal 2009 came from Master Sgt. Jennifer Tucker and Staff Sgt. James Trantham from Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. Sergeants Tucker and Trantham were excited about the tallies and let their counterparts know they mean business. "Lead, follow or get out of the way. We're on the board for FY09," they said in an e-mail. That type of enthusiasm is the fuel that drives AFRC Recruiting Service, according to Colonel Mungavin. "And we just can't get enough of it," he concluded. Comment on this story (comments may be published on Air Force Link) View the comments/letters page
