Sept. 29 airpower summary: F-15Es provide overwatch

Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations Sept. 29, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, a Navy F/A-18C Hornet dropped a guided bomb unit-38 and GBU-12 onto anti-Afghan forces near Qalat. An on-scene joint terminal attack controller confirmed the mission successful.

In the vicinity of Nangalam, an Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle dropped a GBU-31 onto anti-Afghan forces. The mission was declared successful by a JTAC.

F/A-18Cs dropped a GBU-12 and GBU-38 onto improvised explosive device emplacers in the vicinity of Now Zad. A JTAC reported the mission successful.

F/A-18C's conducted shows of force to deter insurgent activities near Qalat. The mission was confirmed successful by a JTAC.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs performed shows of force near Jalalabad to deter enemy activities. A JTAC declared the mission successful.

Coalition aircraft conducted a show of force to deter insurgent activities in the vicinity of Shurakian. The mission was reported successful by a JTAC.

F-15Es performed a show of force in the vicinity of Shkin to deter enemy activities. A JTAC confirmed the mission successful. 

Navy F/A-18E Super Hornets conducted a show of force to deter insurgent activities in the vicinity of Ali Kheyl. The mission was declared successful by a JTAC.

In total, 61 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Sixteen Air Force and coalition intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Additionally, two Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 53 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Thirty Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, three Air Force and coalition aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. 

Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Approximately 139 airlift sorties were flown, 455 tons of cargo delivered and 3,714 passengers were transported. This included approximately 60,000 pounds of troop resupply airdropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.

On Sept. 28, Air Force and coalition tanker crews flew 57 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.6 million pounds of fuel to 259 receiving aircraft.
