Maj. Corey Simmons and Maj. Eric Von Trotha perform preflight procedures on a C-17 Globemaster III Sept. 10 at Christchurch International Airport, New Zealand. The aircrew took approximately 60,000 pounds of supplies to Antarctica as part of Joint Task Force Support Forces Antarctica, headquartered at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, and led by 13th Air Force. The joint task force is currently conducting Operation Deep Freeze in support of the National Science Foundation and U.S. Antarctic Program. Major Simmons is an active duty evaluator pilot with the 62nd Operations Support Squadron at McChord AFB, Wash., and Major Von Trotha is a Reserve evaluator pilot with the 313th Airlift Squadron, also at McChord AFB.
