Officials from the Electronic Systems Center and the Patriot Roost Chapter of the Association of Old Crows are teaming again to host a net-centric operations conference Sept. 22 at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel in New Castle, N.H.

"This year we are exploring the needs of not only the defense establishment, but of those facing civil aviation authorities and commercial service providers, as well," said Bruce Hevey, director of the 653rd Electronic Systems Wing, which is leading the government's participation. "When you talk about focusing on the big picture, this is it."

Lt. Gen. Ted Bowlds, ESC commander, will serve as this year's keynote speaker and is expected to talk about the challenges of getting to and operating within a net-centric environment.

David Tillotson, the Air Force deputy chief of staff for warfighting integration, will offer insights on warfighter interoperability challenges. Michael Krieger, deputy director for the chief information officer of the Army, will provide a sister-service perspective, and Rear Adm. Elizabeth Hight, vice commander of the Defense Information Services Agency, will discuss DISA's overarching role.

In addition, Charles Leader, director of the Joint Planning and Development Office within the Federal Aviation Administration, will discuss ongoing plans for the Next Generation Air Transportation System. This massive initiative, for which ESC is leading many of the Defense Department's efforts, is expected to overhaul virtually all aspects of air transportation within the United States over the next two decades.

"We've worked hard to create a forum that takes a more detailed look at the real issues facing those charged with trying to evolve defense and civil agencies into net-centric frameworks," said AOC Chapter President Nino Amoroso.

The conference is intentionally limited to a manageable size -- about 180 people will attend -- to enable interactive discussion and collaboration, Mr. Amoroso said.
