July 15 airpower summary: F-15Es disrupt enemy activities

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) --  Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations July 15, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs dropped guided bomb unit-12s and fired cannon rounds onto anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Nangalam. Furthermore, A-10s performed shows of force to deter anti-Afghan activities. An on-scene joint terminal attack controller confirmed the mission successful.

In the vicinity of Worzhanah Kalay, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles dropped GBU-31, GBU-12s, and GBU-38s onto an enemy building and anti-Afghan forces engaging coalition forces. The mission was reported successful by a JTAC.

A Navy F/A-18C Hornet dropped a GBU-12 onto enemy vehicles in the vicinity of Qalat. 
A JTAC declared the mission successful.

Near Nangalam, F-15Es dropped GBU-31s onto anti-Afghan fighting positions. The mission was confirmed successful by a JTAC.

An Air Force B-1B Lancer dropped a GBU-38 onto an enemy building in the vicinity of Kandahar. A JTAC reported the mission successful. 

Near Bagram, a B-1B dropped GBU-38s onto anti-Afghan mortar teams. The mission was declared successful by a JTAC.

An Air Force Predator MQ-1 fired a Hellfire missile onto enemy combatants in the vicinity of Zormat. A JTAC confirmed the mission successful.

An F/A-18C dropped a GBU-12 onto an enemy building engaging coalition forces near Delaram. The mission was reported successful by a JTAC.

F/A-18Cs conducted shows of force to deter anti-Afghan activities in the vicinity of Gereshk. A JTAC declared the mission successful.

F-15Es performed shows of force to deter anti-Afghan activities in the vicinity of Shkin and Zaghdata. The missions were confirmed successful by JTACs. 

French 2000 Mirages conducted shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Gardez . A JTAC reported the mission successful.

In total, 71 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Twelve Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Additionally, six Navy and Royal Air Force aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons dropped GBU-12s and 38s onto enemy buildings and enemy combatants in the vicinity of Khan Bani Sad. The mission was declared successful by a JTAC.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 36 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Twenty-six Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, four Air Force and RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. 

Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Approximately 124 airlift sorties were flown, 490 tons of cargo delivered and 2,473 passengers were transported. This included approximately 40,480 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Iraq flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.

On July 14, Air Force, French and RAF tanker crews flew 62 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.6 million pounds of fuel to 285 receiving aircraft.
