July 11 airpower summary: F-15E drops bomb on target

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) --  Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations July 11, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles dropped guided bomb unit-31s and 38s onto anti-Afghan forces and a weapons cache, in the vicinity of Worzhanah Kalay. In addition, F-15Es performed a show of force to deter enemy activities. The on-scene joint terminal attack controller declared the mission successful.

In the vicinity of Nangalam, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs fired cannon rounds and dropped general purpose 500-pound bombs on anti-Afghan forces. The mission was confirmed successful by the JTAC.

An F-15E dropped a GBU-38 onto anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Gereshk. The JTAC reported the mission successful.

In the vicinity of Gardez, F-15Es conducted a show of force to deter enemy activities. The mission was declared successful by the JTAC.

French Mirage-2000s performed shows of force to deter anti-Afghan activities near Worzhanah Kalay and in the vicinity of Orgun-E. The JTACs declared the missions successful.

In the vicinity of Sangin, Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers conducted a show of force to deter enemy activities. The mission was confirmed successful by the JTAC.

Navy F/A-18R Super Hornets performed a show of force to deter anti-Afghan activities near Kandahar. The JTAC reported the mission successful.

In total, 65 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Thirteen Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Additionally, four Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In Iraq, an Air Force B-1B Lancer dropped GBU-31s onto enemy bunkers in the vicinity of Baqubah. The JTAC declared the mission successful.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 51 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Twenty-seven Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, two RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Approximately 135 airlift sorties were flown, 363 tons of cargo were delivered and 3,965 passengers were transported. This included approximately 30,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Iraq and Japan flew as part of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

On July 10, Air Force, French, RAF and Singaporean tankers flew 64 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.7 million pounds of fuel to 297 receiving aircraft.
