June 29 airpower summary: F-15Es bomb enemy rocket teams

Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 29, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles dropped guided bomb unit-12s onto anti-Afghan forces in Lowkhi. An on-scene joint terminal attack controller declared the mission a success.

An F-15E performed a show of force in order to deter enemy activities by anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Bari Kowt. The mission was reported as successful by a JTAC.

In the vicinity of Worzhanah Kalay, Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs fired cannon rounds, rockets and dropped general purpose 500-pound bombs onto anti-Afghan forces' positions. Furthermore, F-15Es fired cannon rounds and dropped GBU-31s and GBU-38s onto enemy combatant rocket teams and additional anti-Afghan forces' positions. A JTAC confirmed the missions as successful.

An Air Force B-1B Lancer dropped a GBU-38 and GBU-31s onto a building containing enemy combatants in the vicinity of Worzhanah Kalay. The mission was declared successful by a JTAC. 

A B-1B dropped GBU-31s onto anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Nagalam. A JTAC reported the mission as a success.

In the vicinity of Lwara, F-15Es dropped a GBU-31 and GBU-38 onto anti-Afghan forces' positions. The mission was confirmed as a success by a JTAC.

A French 2000 Mirage conducted a show of force over enemy positions in the vicinity of Gereshk. A JTAC declared the mission a success.

In Ghanzi, an F-15E and A-10 successfully conducted shows of force.

A Royal Air Force GR-9 Harrier performed a show of force in order to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Musa Qal'eh. The mission was reported as a success by a JTAC. 

In total, 48 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Twelve Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Additionally, two RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In Iraq, an F-16 Fighting Falcon conducted shows of force over enemy positions in the vicinity of Al Amarah. A JTAC confirmed the mission as a success.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 60 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Twenty-four Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, six Air Force and Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. 

Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Approximately 140 airlift sorties were flown, 400 tons of cargo delivered and 2,934 passengers were transported. This included approximately 12,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Iraq and Korea flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.

On June 28, Air Force and RAF tanker crews flew 54 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.1 million pounds of fuel to 225 receiving aircraft.
