June 27 airpower summary: F-15s destroy enemy forces

Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 27, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, B-1B Lancers dropped guided bomb unit-31s and 38s to destroy enemy rocket positions and compounds in the vacinity of Uruzgan. An on-scene joint terminal attack controller confirmed the missions successful.

A-10 Thunderbolt IIs dropped GBU-12s and a 500-pound bomb to destroy anti-Afghan forces and rocket positions in the vacinity of Orgun-E. A JTAC reported the mission successful.

F-15E Strike Eagles dropped GBU-38s to destroy anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Nagalam. A JTAC declared the mission successful.

To deter enemy activities, F-15Es perfomed shows of force in the vicinity of Bari Kowt and Sheykhabad. JTACs confirmed the missions successful.

French 2000 Mirages performed shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Garmser and Lashkar Gah. A JTAC reported the missions successful.

In total, 47 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Eleven Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Additionally, two Royal Air Force aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In Iraq, F-16 Fighting Falcons perfomed shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Al Amarah and Samarra. JTACs declared the missions successful.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 70 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Twenty-six Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, eight Air Force, Navy and Royal Air Force aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Approximately 118 airlift sorties were flown, 435 tons of cargo delivered and 3,005 passengers were transported. This included approximately 47,800 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Iraq and Japan flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.

On June 26, Air Force, French and RAF tanker crews flew 58 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.4 million pounds of fuel to 289 receiving aircraft.
