June 24 airpower summary: F-15Es strike enemy Published June 25, 2008 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 24, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. In Afghanistan, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and A-10 Thunderbolt IIs dropped guided bomb unit-12s, 31s, 38s and 500-pound bombs to destroy anti-Afghan forces supply routes and staging areas in the vicinity of Nagalam. In addition, F-15Es performed shows of force to deter any further enemy activities. An on-scene joint terminal attack controller confirmed the missions successful. An A-10 dropped a 500-pound bomb to destroy anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Shkin. A JTAC reported the mission successful. Air Force F-15Es dropped GBU-12s, a GBU-31, and a GBU-38 to destroy anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Bari Kowt. A JTAC declared the missions successful. In the vicinity of Asadabad, F-15Es dropped a GBU-31 and 38s to destroy anti-Afghan rocket teams. A JTAC confirmed the mission successful. Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers performed shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Orgun-E and Tarin Kowt. JTACs reported the missions successful. In total, 56 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Twelve Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 69 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Twenty-eight Air Force, Navy and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, six Navy and RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Approximately 133 airlift sorties were flown, 568 tons of cargo delivered and 2,951 passengers were transported. This included approximately 61,500 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Iraq and Korea flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq. On June 23, Air Force, French and RAF tanker crews flew 57 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3 million pounds of fuel to 250 receiving aircraft.
