June 10 airpower summary: C-17s support SWA operations Published June 11, 2008 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 10, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here. In Afghanistan, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles performed shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Mita, Orgun-E and Zormat. On-scene joint terminal attack controllers confirmed the missions were successful. An Air Force B-1B Lancer and F-15Es dropped guided bomb unit-12s, 31s and 38 to destroy anti-coalition members in the open and in buildings in the vicinity of Asadabad. The JTAC reported the missions successful. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs performed shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Bagram and Orgun-E. JTACs declared the missions successful. Southwest of Gardez, A-10s dropped GBU-12s to destroy anti-coalition members engaging friendly forces. A JTAC confirmed the missions successful. In total, 54 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols. Fourteen Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Additionally, two RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 44 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Twenty-seven Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, eight Air Force, Navy and RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. Approximately 151 airlift sorties were flown, 659 tons of cargo delivered and 3,398 passengers were transported. This included approximately 67,870 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan. Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Iraq and Japan flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq. On June 9, Air Force and RAF tanker crews flew 53 sorties and off-loaded approximately 2.3 million pounds of fuel to 153 receiving aircraft.
