Safety video promotes driving, recreation safety

The top Air Force safety officer appears in a video for the service's annual "101 Critical Days of Summer" safety campaign, which started May 23 and ends Sept. 2.

In the production, Maj. Gen. Wendell Griffin, the Air Force chief of safety and commander of the Air Force Safety Center at Kirtland AFB, N.M., addresses driving, riding motorcycles, water sports and other recreational activities.

Memorial Day through Labor Day is a season of greater risk to Airmen because they spend more time traveling and engaged in outdoor activities in the summer than they do in the fall, winter and spring.

Three Air Force members have already died since May 23: one in a vehicle crash, one while kayaking and another in a private aircraft crash. The Air Force lost 19 members during the 101 Critical Days period in 2007.

Visit the Air Force Safety Center Web site to view the video.
