June 4 airpower summary: B-1B bombs enemy

Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations June 4, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, an Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle dropped guided bomb unit-38s onto an enemy building in Sangin. An on-scene joint terminal attack controller declared the mission successful.

An Air Force B-1B Lancer dropped a GBU-38 onto an enemy position in the vicinity of Sangin. The mission was confirmed as a success by a JTAC.

Royal Air Force GR-7 and GR-9 Harriers conducted shows of force in order to deter enemy activities against coalition forces in Kandahar. A JTAC reported the missions as a success. 

A B-1B dropped a GBU-31 and a GBU-38 onto enemy combatants in Nangalam. The mission was declared a success by a JTAC.

A GR-9 dropped a 540-pound bomb and fired rockets onto enemy combatants in the vicinity of Qalat. Furthermore, the GR-9 performed a show of force in order to deter enemy activities against coalition forces in the area. A JTAC confirmed the missions as successful.

In Sangin and Orgune, F-15Es conducted shows of force in order to deter enemy activities in the areas. The missions were reported as successful by a JTAC.

A B-1B dropped a GBU-31 onto enemy combatants in the vicinity of Kabul. A JTAC declared the mission a success.

In Bahramchan, an F-15E dropped GBU-38s onto an enemy building successfully destroying the target.

A GR-9 Harrier performed a show of force over an enemy position in Sangin. The mission was reported successful by a JTAC.

An Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II conducted shows of force in order to deter enemy activities in the area of Bari Kowt. A JTAC confirmed the missions as successful.

In total, 56 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Eleven Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Additionally, two RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 74 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Twenty-seven Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, eight Air Force, Navy and RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. 

Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Approximately 151 airlift sorties were flown, 422 tons of cargo delivered and 1,698 passengers were transported. This included approximately 27,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Iraq and Japan flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.

On June 3, Air Force, French, RAF and Singaporean tanker crews flew 55 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.3 million pounds of fuel to 234 receiving aircraft.
