Medical training exercise supports Partnership for Peace

Fifteen nations are currently participating in the 2008 Medical Training Exercise in Central and Eastern Europe from May 2 through 14.

The MEDCEUR is a Joint Chiefs of Staff regional/multilateral exercise sponsored by U.S. European Command and provides an opportunity for Air Force medical personnel to share expertise with their counterparts from Eastern Europe

Croatia is hosting the 2008 exercise, which has drawn about 400 multi-nationals in support of the Partnership for Peace initiative.

The focus of this year's exercise is mass-casualty training scenarios and humanitarian aid in response to crises situations. Training in eleven different medical courses such as Self Aid and Buddy Care and Emergency Management will be offered.

Trainers from various nations will share their expertise in the classroom followed by three days of field application in a simulated natural-disaster scenario.

"We are very excited to host this exercise," said Croatian Lieutenant Commander Dalibor Jokic. "This is a great opportunity for our country to be part of such a noble endeavor. This exercise is about building on our separate experiences to create a multinational life-saving team." Lieutenant Commander Jokic is the MEDCEUR 08 exercise co-commander.
