B-52 bomber and simulator
A new dome projection surface fitted on the B-52 Stratofortress simulator at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., provides a more realistic view for aircrews during training. The new hydraulic actuators also provide realistic motion. An actual flight in a B-52 bomber costs approximately $16,000 per hour, compared to the $400 per hour to operate the simulator. However, though cost effective, not all training can be simulated. (U.S. Air Force photo/Lance Cheung)
