Nine individuals who saved the Air Force $14.7 million were recognized April 8 at the Pentagon as seven individuals won Air Force Productivity Excellence Awards and two won Air Force Exceptional Innovator Awards.

Lt. Gen. Richard Y. Newton III, the Air Force deputy chief of staff for manpower, personnel and services, presented plaques to the winners for their money-saving improvements to the Air Force.

"Innovation and increased productivity are essential in today's Air Force," General Newton said. "Like the men and women who served before us, these award winners found ways to make sure they leave our Air Force a better organization for the generation of Airmen to follow."

The Air Force Productivity Excellence Award recognizes individual Airmen and small groups who have made substantial improvements in productivity.

These improvements come as ideas through the Innovative Development through Employee Awareness program, special acts and other management initiatives.

The 2007 Air Force Productivity Excellence Award winners are:
-- Senior Master Sgt. Andrew Calvello from the 512th Maintenance Squadron at Dover Air Force Base, Del.
-- Tech. Sgt. Mathew Ferris and Tech. Sgt. Linda Hughes from the Conventional Munitions Branch at Langley AFB, Va.
-- Daniel Lance Rumsey, Victor Garcia, Harold Mitchell and Richard England from the 549th Combat Sustainment Squadron at Tinker AFB, Okla.

The 2007 Air Force Exceptional Innovator Award winners are Lt. Col. Richard Lane and Pamela Singleton from the 59th Medical Wing at Lackland AFB, Texas. This award recognizes Air Force members or groups who contributed to continual performance improvement through the IDEA program.
