Tennis: Air Force shuts out Dayton

The U.S. Air Force Academy men's tennis team won its second consecutive match by shutting out the University of Dayton 7-0 March 16 here. 

The Falcons improved to 9-6 this season with the victory.

For the third straight match, the Air Force captured the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles matches. Sophomore Brett Rodgers and freshman Taylor Soster improved to 12-8 overall and 9-6 at the No. 1 spot with an 8-3 triumph. Sophomore Mike Gies and freshman Johnny Buckingham won at No. 3 with an 8-4 victory.

Rodgers completed his clean sweep of the weekend with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. Rodgers was a perfect three-for-three in singles and doubles for Air Force this weekend. Sophomore Austin Francis playing in the No. 2 slot, Soster at No. 3 and sophomore James Tomlin in the No. 4 position all won their  matches in straight sets.

Buckingham pulled out a thrilling, 4-6, 6-3, (11-9) victory over Warnock at the No. 5 spot, while fellow freshman Alex Beaussart completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Chris Riccadella at No. 6 singles.

The Falcons will host the University of Rhode Island March 18.
