Basketball: Air Force downed by Utah, 71-52

Junior Brooke Cultra led the U.S. Air Force Academy women's basketball team with 13 points but the Falcons lost to 20th ranked Utah 71-52 in Mountain West Conference action Feb. 9 at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City. 

Cultra was six-for-eight from the field, to go with four rebounds and two assists as the Falcons fell to a 7-14 record, with a 1-8 conference record. 

Freshman Raimee Beck was the other Falcon in double-digits, scoring 12 points and leading the team with five rebounds. Junior Chasmine Jones tied a career-high with nine points on four-of-five shooting. Kim Kreke recorded three blocked shots and scored five points. 

Utah raced out to a 40-25 lead at halftime. The Utes shot 59.3 percent from the field in the opening stanza. The Falcons committed nine turnovers while Utah had three and shot 40.9 percent from the field. 

Air Force senior Alecia Steele did not score for the first time in 58 games and just the second time in 104 career games, both coming against Utah. Steele played 17 minutes in the first half before sitting out the second with a sore hamstring. 

The women's basketball team returns to action Feb. 13, hosting the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
