Wounded American servicemembers aeromedically evacuated out of Ramstein Air Base every Tuesday leave Germany with home-baked goods made by base spouse group volunteers.

The program, called Wounded Warrior, is sponsored by spouse groups in the 86th Operations Group and occurs every Tuesday throughout the year as injured Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen prepare to fly to the states.

"I felt so honored to offer this service to those who have served us," said Paige Norris-Miller, a 37th Airlift Squadron spouse who delivered cupcakes and decorated sugar cookies with the Wounded Warrior program Dec. 11 at Ramstein AB. "Just having the chance to look into the eyes of a wounded man or woman and say, 'Thank you for your service,' and see them smile was very rewarding to me."

Stacy Uselman, wife of Lt. Col. David Uselman, the 86th Operations Group deputy commander, has participated in the Wounded Warrior program several times. She said it is about more than just delivering cookies. It is about talking to heroes about their experiences. She said she is always surprised by their dedication.

Although the troops are happy to go to the United States, they are torn because their units are still deployed and they don't want to leave them behind, she said.
