Operation Christmas Drop box build-up complete in Guam

Andersen Air Force Base members prepared for the 2007 Operation Christmas Drop Dec. 8 by filling boxes with supplies and toys Dec. 8 with the first airdrop scheduled for Dec. 14 to inhabitants on surrounding islands.

Every year in December for 55 years, Andersen Air Force Base members and the 36th Airlift Squadron from Yokota Air Base, Japan, join forces to drop humanitarian supplies donated by the Guam community over the Micronesian Islands as part of a training exercise.

The aircraft will make 74 drops over 71 islands, culminating in the largest Operation Christmas Drop in the history of Andersen AFB.

Fishing nets, tools, construction materials, school supplies, shoes, toys and clothing will be dropped in boxes weighing nearly 400 pounds each from a C-130 Hercules to aid people of smaller islands that do not have airstrips or major ports.
