F-16 destroys house filled with explosives in Iraq

  • Published
An F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot launched a bomb to destroy a house-borne improvised explosive device Nov. 25 near Maderiyah in Iraq.

Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division were conducting a foot patrol in the area when they found an abandoned house with copper wires extending out of a window, which led them to believe the house was rigged with explosives.

Local Iraqi citizens confirmed the house was abandoned. An explosive ordnance disposal team was then called, and the EOD team saw the copper wires were attached to blasting caps on jugs filled with homemade explosives.

It was determined that approaching the house to destroy the bombs would be too much of a risk so the area was cleared, so an F-16 destroyed the house.
