Nov. 1 airpower summary: Airmen engineer success

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) --  Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Nov. 1, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles conducted air strikes against an enemy bunker with guided bomb unit-38s in Tarin Kowt. The on-scene joint terminal attack controller confirmed the mission was successful.

An F-15E performed a show of force to deter enemy activities in Sangin. The mission was assessed as successful by the JTAC.

Air strikes were conducted by F-15Es with GBU-38s against enemy positions in Qalat. coalition forces were receiving hostile fire from the enemy combatants. The JTAC confirmed the mission as a success.

During an armed overwatch for friendly forces, a show of force was performed by an F-15 to deter enemy activities in Bagram. The mission was deemed successful by the JTAC.

An F-15E performed a show of force with the use of flares to deter enemy activities against a coalition convoy in Kandahar. The JTAC declared the mission as a success.

In total, 28 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Eight Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew a total of 58 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions supported coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Nineteen Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Additionally, five Air Force, Navy, and RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. 

Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Approximately 148 airlift sorties were flown; 560 tons of cargos were delivered, and 3,555 passengers were transported. This included approximately 44,480 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan, and Korea flew in support of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.

On Oct. 31, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 45 sorties and off-loaded approximately 3.1 million pounds of fuel to 237 receiving aircraft.
