Airman's Roll Call highlights energy awareness

  • Published
This week's Airman's Roll Call highlights energy awareness and energy challenges that confront the Air Force.

As the federal government's largest consumer of energy, the Air Force consumed nearly 2.6 billion gallons of aviation fuel in 2006 costing almost $5.8 billion, and the total exceeds $7 billion when including the energy required to operate bases and fuel ground vehicles.

Secretary of the Air Force Michael W. Wynne developed a three-part energy strategy in response to President George W. Bush's challenge for Americans to reduce dependence on foreign oil during the "State of the Union" address in January.

All Airmen play a vital role in carrying out the strategy, and the efforts of Airmen at every level are critical to the Air Force's success in this endeavor. Airmen can make energy conservation part of their day-to-day activities through simple actions to free up resources and increase energy efficiency.

Airman's Roll Call is designed for supervisors at all levels to help keep Airmen informed on current issues, clear up confusion, dispel rumors and provide additional face-to-face communication.
