General Moseley kicks off AFA conference

The Air Force chief of staff spoke at the opening ceremonies for the Air Force Association's Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition Sept. 24.

"This is a celebration of being a separate service with a primary mission of flying and fighting and defending our country," Gen. T. Michael Moseley said.

The conference includes many professional development forums and discussions surrounding the Air Force's top three priorities:  fighting and winning the war on terrorism, developing and caring for Airmen, and recapitalizing and modernizing the aging fleet and equipment.

General Moseley feels Airmen have a lot to take away from this year's conference, which includes the attendance of air chiefs from various nations.

During the conference "there is much to learn just by listening (during the seminars) and also by networking with the fellow air chiefs from the more than 80 different countries," he said. "I appreciate the (ability) to spend a few days with the air chiefs to think about the world of military aviation and space together and to think together how to best deploy and defend our collective securities."

More than 2000 Airmen, civilian and international military leaders attended the opening ceremonies.

Some of the key events for this year's AFA conference held at the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel include:

- Secretary of the Air Force Michael Wynne addresses the conference later today

- Gen. Moseley moderates a four-star forum on Tuesday

- Gen. Moseley addresses the conference on Wednesday afternoon

The conference ends Wednesday night with the AFA Air Force Anniversary Dinner.
