Airman's Roll Call highlights writing skills

  • Published
This week's Airman's Roll Call highlights writing well as essential to good Airmanship.

Every e-mail, letter of appreciation, official memorandum or any written communication represents the professionalism of an Airman and an organization.

Writing lacks face-to-face communication including tone, inflection and body language. This puts more emphasis on good grammar, proper spelling and appropriate word choice to communicating effectively.

Analyzing the purpose of the document and the intended audience are the first steps to effective communication, according to the Air Force Professional Development Guide. The written word is a powerful tool used throughout a career.

Airman's Roll Call is designed for supervisors at all levels to help keep Airmen informed on current issues, clear up confusion, dispel rumors and provide additional face-to-face communication.
