Airman's Roll Call discusses base realignment, closure

  • Published
This week's Airman's Roll Call discusses base realignment and closure requirements for Air Force installations and offices to be closed or moved to maximize efficiency.

The efficiencies that will be achieved as a result of BRAC will help free up critical resources needed for today's fight, as well as for the needs of the future.

BRAC requirements are transforming the force from a residual Cold War infrastructure to meet future defense strategy and needs. BRAC is a Total Force initiative, affecting active duty, the Guard and Reserve, and incorporating innovative ideas to create a smaller, more capable force. The Air Force is using capability from new technology to capitalize on the wealth of talent and experience across the service.

Air Force officials recently dedided to close Kulis Air National Guard Base, Alaska, and move the people to nearby Elmendorf Air Force Base to enhance those missions.

In addition, Air Force officials are on track to combine eight other Total Force units to share fighter, airlift, tanker and unmanned aerial vehicle mission responsibilities, and are prepared to merge another eight more.
