Air Force units promo August Air Force Week event

  • Published
Air National Guard, active-duty and Reserve units from across New England teamed up June 6 to demonstrate and highlight aerial refueling as a way to kick off a summer-long celebration of 60 years of Air Force history.

The celebration promotes Air Force Week New England which will take place in August with major air shows at Pease Air National Guard Base in New Hampshire and Otis ANGB in Massachusetts.

F-16 Fighting Falcons from Vermont, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs from Connecticut and F-15 Eagles from Massachusetts were refueled by two KC-135s from New Hampshire.

Air Force Weeks are designed to highlight the Air Force's heritage and contributions to the war on terrorism. Six locations throughout the nation were chosen to host an Air Force Week and Pease ANGB and Otis ANGB were selected to co-host Air Force Week New England.

Different events will be occurring throughout the summer leading up to Air Force Week New England including flyovers at various sporting events, visits to local youth groups by Airmen, performances by Air Force bands and a golf tournament.

Air Force Week New England will begin with Proclamation Day on Aug. 17 followed by the Pease's Wings of Hope Air Show Aug. 18 and 19. The air show will feature various static aircraft displays and both civilian and military flying acts. The week culminates with the Cape Cod Air Show at Otis on Aug. 25 and 26.
