A broadcast journalism legend returned to Royal Air Force Molesworth where he reported on World War II events to see the monument dedicated to the members of the 303rd Bomb Group from World War II.

Walter Cronkite is best known as the anchorman for the CBS Evening News from 1962 to 1981, and he has produced a story called "Nine Crying Boys."

The visit brought back a lot of memories from Mr. Cronkite since he was a correspondent at RAF Molesworth during the war. The story he produced is based on the 303rd Bomb Group, of which Capt. Donald Stockton was a member. The captain was killed in action on a bombing raid.

Mr. Cronkite's visit to the United Kingdom is part of a documentary for the Public Broadcast System. He also visited Cambridge American Cemetery where Captain Stockton is buried.

"Why did this have to happen, such senseless death," he said as he read the names of servicemembers listed on the "Wall of the Missing."
