'Week in Photos' highlights Airmen around the world

  • Published
Airmen are deployed around the globe every day to support operations ranging from humanitarian missions and coalition exercises to fighting terrorism with airpower.

The "Week In Photos" Web exclusive on Air Force Link provides visitors ten photos that feature Airmen at war. It is a brief but dramatic view of the week's events.

The Total-Force team combined airpower with Peruvian airmen in exercise Falcon Condor 2007. Airmen from the 34th Fighter Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, and the 336th Air Refueling Squadron at March Air Reserve Base, Calif., supported the exercise which provides the two countries the opportunity to work together and build a stronger relationship.

North of Peru more Airmen were participating in a medical readiness training exercise, in Nicaragua. Maj. Dawn Peredo, of the 9th Medical Group, Beale AFB, Calif., worked with patients both big and small during New Horizons-Nicaragua 2007. The exercise is a joint U.S.-Nicaraguan military humanitarian and training event.

This year's endeavors include providing a new school and medical clinic, as well as free health and veterinary care. The joint exercise and community outreach initiatives directly support U.S. Southern Command's engagement goals and furthers relations between our allied nations.

On the other side of the globe, Air Force medics supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom tend to patients in the emergency room of the Air Force Theater Hospital at Balad Air Base, Iraq. As nightfall approached on Feb. 19, 39 patients had been treated at the hospital. The medical facility treats coalition military members as well as Iraqi civilians who need medical care. The theater hospital, the largest of its kind ever established in a war zone, has a survival rate of 98 percent.
