Swimming and diving: Falcons break 800 free relay record

The Air Force men's s swimming and diving team sits in third place after the first day of competition Feb. 21 at the 2007 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The Falcon women's team is in eighth place. 

The Brigham Young University men's and women's swimming and diving teams lead the team rankings with 103 and 120 points, respectively. Wyoming ranks second in both lists with 96 points for the men and 107 points for the women. 

Air Force is third in the men's rankings with 93 points, followed by the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, (86), Utah (84) and Texas Christian University (73). The defending champion Utah women rank third with 86 points, followed by Colorado State (76), UNLV (72), New Mexico (63), TCU (59), Air Force (44) and San Diego State (36).

The men's 800 free relay team took second place with a time of 6:34.64. The group of Bryan Avery, T.J. Cowling, Paul Parmenter and Chris Knaute broke the school record by three seconds and provisionally qualified for the NCAA championship.

The Falcon women's team took eighth in the 800 free relay. The group of Jane Hwang, Lauren White, Blair Leake and Laken Stogner swam a time of 7:43.18.

The men's 200 medley relay team took fourth place. The group of Nick Burton, Justin Day, Matt Sievers and Ryan Moss combined to swim a time of 1:31.02. The women's team placed eighth in the 200 medley relay. Katelyn Hunter, Leake, Lindsey Kirchhoff and Stogner combined to swim a time of 1:48.11.

The Falcons had five competitors in the men's one-meter diving and were led by senior Brady Lindberg. Lindberg placed sixth with 286 points in the finals. David Arlington took 10th, Kyle VanValkenburg 12th, Randy Rogers 14th and Brian Wilhite 16th.

The second day's events began with the women's one-meter dive preliminaries and women's 500 freestyle preliminaries at 10 a.m. CST and finals competition at 6 p.m. The championships conclude Feb. 24.
