Symposium to highlight role, future of airborne ISR

  • Published
The future of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance will be the focus May 22 to 24 during the 55th Wing's inaugural ISR symposium, "Leading the Fight -- Airborne ISR in 2025," in Omaha, Neb.

The symposium will highlight the importance of airborne ISR to decision-makers across the spectrum.

Gordon England, deputy secretary of defense, will be the featured speaker for the symposium which will bring together a diverse cross section of subject-matter experts to address ISR-related topics in presentations, open forums, specific-interest seminars and panel discussions.

In addition to Secretary England, Michael W. Wynne, secretary of the Air Force, and retired Lt. Gen. Leo W. Smith II, the former vice commander of Strategic Air Command, are scheduled to lend their perspective into the past, present and future of ISR.

"Key leaders and critical thinkers from defense, government, industry, academia and media also will be on hand to share and discuss ideas on how to shape the present and future security of the United States and its allies through the application of increasingly relevant airborne ISR platforms, missions and processes," said Col. Don Kelly, 55th Operations Group deputy commander and symposium organizer.

The format for the symposium will encourage a rich discourse that can translate visionary concepts to multidisciplinary strategies to move the ISR mission forward within a complex, turbulent security environment, Colonel Kelly said.

Brig. Gen. Jonathan George, 55th Wing commander and symposium host, is requesting presentations on the future of airborne ISR and its uses in future warfare. Presentations should be 30 to 45 minutes and allow 10 to 15 minutes for questions.

The deadline for submission of proposed papers is March 1 and should be sent to the Offutt Symposium Office at offuttsymposium@offutt.af.mil or to Maj. Tom Nicholson at thomas.nicholson@offutt.af.mil.
