CENTAF releases airpower summary for Feb. 3

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Feb. 3.

In Afghanistan Feb. 2, Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with enemy forces near Delaram.

RAF M-2000s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Forward Operating Base Robinson.

In total, 17 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 10 Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces hiding in a palm grove near Baghdad. The aircraft successfully expended guided bomb unit-38s ending the engagement.

F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad and Sammara.

Air Force F-16s, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and RAF GR-4 Tornados also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Taji. An F-16 successfully expended cannon rounds at anti-Iraqi forces believed to be placing an improvised explosive device.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 48 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, U.S. Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew more than 150 airlift sorties, delivered more than 430 tons of cargo, and transported 3,645 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, Japan and Republic of South Korea flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Feb. 1, Air Force, RAF and French tankers flew 27 sorties and off-loaded almost 1.9 million pounds of fuel.
