CENTAF releases airpower summary for Feb. 2

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Feb. 2.

In Afghanistan Feb. 1, Air Force F-15 Eagles and a B-1B Lancer provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with enemy forces near Forward Operating Base Rob.

An F-15 expended a guided bomb unit-12 successfully on an enemy firing position and a possible underground tunnel network. The B-1B successfully expended GBU-38s on enemy rocket positions and GBU-31s on an enemy compound.

F-15s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Kajaki and Lashkar Gah.

In total, 26 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, seven Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq , F-16 Fighting Falcons and A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Al Mada'in.

The F-16s successfully expended GBU-12s and a GBU-38 on enemy forces' buildings and a GBU-12 on a vehicle containing enemy forces. The F-16s also successfully strafed a field, expending cannon rounds at enemy forces who were firing at a joint terminal attack controller's position.

F-16s also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Yusufiyah, Baghdad , Bakquba, Al Mahmudiyah and Ramadi.

A-10s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Sal Man Pak.

Royal Air Force GR-4 Tornados also provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 51 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 14 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew more than 150 airlift sorties, delivered more than 415 tons of cargo and transported more than 3,750 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia , Canada and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Jan. 31, Air Force and French tankers flew 25 sorties and off-loaded almost 1.7 million pounds of fuel.
