Security forces train in combat employment exercise

Airmen from the 51st Fighter Wing at Osan Air Base, South Korea, and the 8th Fighter Wing at Kunsan AB, South Korea, participated in a Combat Employment Readiness Exercise in late January.

The week-long exercise tested the ability of units across the Korean Peninsula to sustain surge operations while undergoing the stress of a combat environment.

One scenario called for opposing forces to attack the wing operations center and headquarters at Osan AB. The attackers simulated dropping in on parachutes and began the steady climb up the hill toward their objective, only to be repelled by members of the 51st Security Forces Squadron.

The attack on the headquarters is a normal part of every exercise at Osan AB, with the scenarios changing each time. This gives the security forces opportunities to hone their skills while keeping them from being able to predict the time or type of attack they will see.

"Their communication was good," said Staff Sgt. Kaleo Cambra, a security forces exercise evaluator. "Their tactics were good. I think we only 'lost' one member out of the force."
