Swimming & Diving: Air Force swept at Utah

The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Utah here in a Mountain West Conference dual Jan. 27. The men's team lost 154-146 while the women lost 153-117.

The Falcon men took first place in eight of the 16 events, but came up just short. Senior Chris Knaute took first place in three individual events and anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team.

Knaute won the 200, 500 and 1,650 free events. Sophomore Justin Day won the 100 breaststroke (58.95). Three other seniors, Justin Lapin, Andrew Bergman and Matt Sievers, also won events for the Falcons. Lapin won the 200 backstroke (1:53.41), Bergman the 200 breaststroke (2:08.35) and Sievers the 200 butterfly (51.93).

In the 200 free relay, T.J. Cowling, Ryan Moss, Nick Burton and Knaute won the event with a time of 1:24.88.

The Falcon women won five events, led by seniors Lauren Bursey, Blair Leake and Lauren White. Leake won the 200 breast (2:25.73), Bursey the 1-meter diving (214.88) and White the 500 free (5:15.49). Sophomore Jane Hwang won the 100 fly (1:00.05) and freshman Becky Gleason the 400 individual medley (4:51.99).

The Falcons conclude their regular season Feb. 3, playing host to Wyoming. The diving team also serves as host to the Air Force diving invitational Feb. 2 and 3.
