Three Incirlik AB Airmen reported for duty to the 39th Air Base Wing's headquarters building instead of working at their normal jobs Jan. 23 here.

Airman 1st Class Allen Castleberry, Airman 1st Class Sam Lombardo and Senior Airman Andrew Johnson spent the day with one of the wing's leaders as part of the base's shadow program.

"It's a great opportunity for me to get a little bit of his perspective," Col. Tip Stinnette, the wing commander said about his shadow, Airman Castleberry.

The day was an eye opener for the Airman as well.

"I've seen his schedule. It's pretty intense," said Airman Castleberry, who is assigned to the 39th Maintenance Squadron.

The shadows attended every meeting and function on the leaders' busy schedules. Airman Johnson of the 39th Medical Group could not have been happier to spend a day with Chief Master Sgt. Jeffrey Antwine, the 39th ABW command chief.

"I'm just taking mental notes for when I take a leadership role, looking at what he does (and) how he handles himself, and just soaking it all in," Airman Johnson said.

Leaders from each of the wing's groups select the Airmen to participate in the once-a-month program, which Colonel Stinnette called a win-win situation.

"It connects us with our Airmen a little better and it gives the Airmen a little insight on what's going on around the wing," the colonel said.
