Baseball: Air Force announces 2007 schedule

The Air Force Academy baseball team is slated to take on 18 different opponents in a 53-game schedule for the 2007 season. The Falcons open the season Feb. 3 hosting Colorado Christian.

Air Force is slated to play 22 home games, and 28 games total in Colorado. Highlights of the non-conference season include the annual Service Academies Spring Classic at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn., the Banana Belt Classic in Lewiston, Idaho and a five-game series at Hawaii-Hilo over spring break. The Falcons also play a 24 game Mountain West Conference schedule with home-and-home series against San Diego State and TCU.

The Falcons open the season Feb. 3-4, hosting CCU and York College. Air Force then heads up north to play a three-game set Feb. 9-11 at Northern Colorado. After a four-game set Feb. 16-18 at home against Kansas Wesleyan, the Falcons head to the 2007 Service Academies Spring Classic from Feb. 23-25 in Millington, Tenn. The Falcons are slated to take on Akron once and Navy twice at USA Stadium.

Air Force opens March at the Banana Belt Tournament, hosted by NAIA powerhouse Lewis & Clark State from March 1-4. The Falcons take on Gonzaga, Lewis & Clark, Utah Valley State and Washington State. After the Banana Belt tourney, the Falcons return home for a three-game set March 9-11 against Wright State.

AFA opens MWC play the following weekend, March 16-18, at TCU. The Falcons then continue with a series of MWC home games against San Diego State (March 22-24), TCU (April 5-7), New Mexico (April 13-15), and Utah (May 11-13). Air Force then hits the road to take on TCU, SDSU (April 20-22), BYU (April 26-28) and UNLV (May 16-19).

The Falcons head to Hawaii from March 27-31 to play five games against Hawaii-Hilo over Spring Break. Air Force also has another non-conference game against Colorado Christian in Lakewood April 17 and three games in Greeley against UNC and Utah Valley State May 4-6.

With a format change to the 2007 MWC Baseball Championships, the Falcons will be looking to qualify for the tourney for the first time ever. Six of the top seven teams make the tournament, held May 22-26 in Las Vegas, Nev.
