CENTAF releases airpower summaries for Jan. 6 and 7

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Jan. 6 and 7.

In Afghanistan Jan. 6, a B-1B Lancer and A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Orgun-e.

In total, 32 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 13 Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

In Iraq, F-16 Fighting Falcons conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Turki Village. The F-16s expended guided bomb unit-12s on enemy targets.

Coalition aircraft provide a wide array of support for the joint forces commander in Operation Iraqi Freedom, including air refueling, air lift, close-air support, ISR, and precision strikes.

F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Hawijah, Taji, Baghdad and Balad.

F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Turki Village. The F-15Es expended cannon rounds on enemy positions.

F-16s and RAF GR-4 Tornados provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Turki Village. The F-16s expended GBU-38s on enemy positions.

RAF GR-4s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Basrah.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 29 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 14 Air Force and U.S. Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew about 130 airlift sorties; delivered more than 440 tons of cargo, and transported more than 2,380 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of OIF or Operation Enduring Freedom.

On Jan. 5, Air Force, RAF and French tankers flew 37 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.1 million pounds of fuel.

In Afghanistan Jan. 5, A-10s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Asadabad. The A-10s expended cannon rounds on enemy positions.

A B-1B provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Musa Qal'eh.

A-10s provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Orgun-E.

In total, 25 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 10 Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.

With the coalition's assistance, the Government of Afghanistan is gaining long-term capability to take care of its people. Steady progress is being made.

In Iraq, F-16s conducted strikes against anti-Iraqi forces near Balad Ruz. The F-16s expended guided bomb unit-12s and GBU-38s.

F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baqubah and Baghdad.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 24 close-air-support missions for OIF. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 11 Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

C-130s and C-17s provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew approximately 120 airlift sorties; transported more than 2,640 passengers; and delivered more than 230 tons of cargo including more than 16,900 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Jan. 4, Air Force, RAF and French tankers flew 35 sorties and off-loaded over 2.3 million pounds of fuel.
