Military, Djiboutians communicate through discussion group

  • Published
Military members from Camp Lemonier have been bridging a communications gap with local Djibouti children during an English discussion group held at a school house.

The group allows for two-way communications between the military and the local citizens.

Senior Master Sgt. Edith Garcia, a coordinator for the group, said she believes the discussions are beneficial to both the military people and the Djibouti citizens.

"The purpose of the English discussion group is to provide a forum for military forces to engage with Djiboutian students about a variety of topics," she said. "This is also intended to build better relationships with them and to instill the trust and confidence they have for us and to correct whatever negative perceptions they have about the United States."
