The January 2007 issue of Recruiter, Air Force Recruiting Service's magazine, marks the last edition slated for print after nearly 52 years as the official periodical for all Air Force recruiters.

In keeping with the times, the Recuiter will morph into a Web-based news service beginning in February on AFRS's official Web site at www.rs.af.mil.

The publication has varied over time -- from a newspaper to a tabloid to a magazine format and from a bi-weekly to a monthly to a quarterly -- it provided Air Force recruiters with news that highlighted their efforts and information that enabled them to accomplish their mission.

Volume 1, No. 1, of The Air Force Recruiter hit Wright Patterson Air Force Base's streets Aug. 23, 1955, highlighting that Air Force recruiters had managed to bring in 181,937 enlisted members during fiscal year 1955, on target to make 100 percent of its goal.

(Note: The 3500th U.S. Air Force Recruiting Wing at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, assumed responsibility for Air Force recruiting in 1954. The wing was inactivated July 8, 1959, and in its place, the U.S. Air Force Recruiting Service was activated. Six years later the headquarters moved to Randolph AFB, Texas. The command was renamed Air Force Recruiting Service in 1994.)
