McGuire Airman fatally wounded

An Airman from McGuire AFB was fatally wounded in an incident as he and his wife attempted to leave a club early Dec. 17 in Philadelphia.

Airman 1st Class Lam Mai Ho was an air transportation apprentice in the 819th Global Support Squadron based at McGuire AFB.

The incident is under investigation by civilian law enforcement agencies.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our Airmen," said Col. Steven Bernard, 621st Contingency Response Wing commander. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Airman Ho's family during this difficult time."

"Airman Ho was an outstanding member of our squadron," said Lt. Col. Scott Dierlam, 819th GSS commander. "During his short time with our unit, he stood out as one of my top performers. His commitment to the unit and the Air Force was unparalleled. This senseless crime robbed the Air Force of a sure-fire superstar and our country of a great patriot."

As an air transportation specialist, Airman Ho deployed in response to short-notice taskings as a member of a contingency response element to support strategic and theater air mobility requirements. Additionally, he processed and prepared cargo and passenger airlift manifests at deployed locations. Airman Ho had been in the Air Force for one year. McGuire AFB was his first duty assignment.

The following is a statement from Airman Ho's wife, Ngan Ho:

"I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time," said Mrs. Ho, who is six months pregnant with the couple's first child. "My husband loved his country and the Air Force."
