CENTAF releases airpower summary for Dec. 10 Published Dec. 10, 2006 SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Dec. 10.In Afghanistan Dec. 9, Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close- air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Lashkar Gah. One of the F/A-18s expended a guided bomb unit-12 on an enemy position.An Air Force B-1B Lancer and Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Kabul. The B-1B expended GBU-38s on enemy positions.In total, 46 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.Additionally, 10 Air Force and Royal Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.In Iraq, Marine Corps F/A-18s conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Ramadi. The F/A-18s expended a Maverick missile and cannon rounds on enemy targets.Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baqubah, Hawijah and Bayji. The F-16s expended cannon rounds on enemy positions near Bayji.Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.In total, coalition aircraft flew 32 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Air Force fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.On Dec. 8, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew a medical evacuation mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. One pregnant Afghan local national, who was in labor, was evacuated as a result of this mission.Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intratheater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew more than 130 airlift sorties, transported some 2,630 passengers and delivered more than 360 tons of cargo including about 23,800 pounds of troop re-supply and 17,700 pounds of humanitarian aid air-dropped in Afghanistan.Coalition C-130 crews from Australia and Canada flew in support of OIF or OEF.On Dec. 8, Air Force, RAF and French tankers flew 36 sorties and off-loaded almost 2.6 million pounds of fuel.
