Air Force officials announced the three Air Force installations that have been named as finalists in the Commander-In-Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence Dec. 6.

The bases nominated are Columbus AFB, Miss., Hurlburt Field, Fla., and Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.

The bases were selected for "outstanding contributions, innovation and commitment to excellence of our Air Force people who operate and maintain our installations and support of the mission of the United States Air Force," according to the Air Force message.

The award recognizes the outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.

According to the Defense Department's news release announcing last year's winners, excellent installations enable better mission performance and enhance the quality of life for military men and women and their families.

This year's installation excellence selection board will visit the three installation finalists between Jan. 28 and Feb. 7 to determine the Air Force's winner.
