CENTAF releases airpower summary for Dec. 2

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Dec. 2.

In Afghanistan Dec. 1, U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets and Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Lashkar Gah.

Navy F/A-18s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Moqor.

In total, 50 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, 10 Air Force and RAF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Iraq, U.S. Marine F/A-18s conducted a strike against anti-Iraqi forces near Al Qa'im. One of the aircraft expended a guided bomb unit-12 on an enemy target.

RAF GR-4 Tornados provided close-air support for troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Baghdad.

Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Baghdad and Al Kut.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 34 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 18 Air Force, Navy, RAF and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq.

On Nov. 30, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew a medical evacuation mission in support of OEF. Two Afghan national army soldiers with injuries requiring urgent care were evacuated as a result of this mission.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. More than 140 airlift sorties were flown; about 370 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,760 passengers were transported. This included about 17,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in eastern Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 30, Air Force, RAF, Singaporean and French tankers flew 38 sorties and off-loaded more than 2.3 million pounds of fuel.
