CENTAF releases airpower summary for Nov. 27

U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials have released the airpower summary for Nov. 27.

In Afghanistan Nov. 26, Royal Air Force GR-7 Harriers provided close-air support for International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Musah Qal'eh. The GR-7s expended rockets on enemy positions.

RAF GR-7s provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Lashkar Gah. The GR-7s expended a 540-pound bomb and an enhanced Paveway II on enemy positions.

U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets provided close-air support to ISAF troops in contact with enemy forces near Musah Qal'eh. They expended a guided bomb unit-12 and cannon rounds on enemy positions.

An Air Force B-1B Lancer provided close-air support for ISAF troops in contact with Taliban extremists near Asadabad.

In total, 52 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAF and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Additionally, six Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Navy fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Iraq, Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Kirkuk , Al Mahmudyiah, Baghdad, and Bayji.

Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles and F-16s provided close-air support to troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces near Bayji.

In total, coalition aircraft flew 32 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Additionally, 15 Air Force, Navy and RAF ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq . Air Force fighter aircraft performed in non-traditional ISR roles with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

On Nov. 25, Air Force rescue and medical crews on HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters flew medical evacuation missions in support of OEF. A local national patient with injuries requiring urgent care was evacuated as a result of these missions.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. More than 130 airlift sorties were flown; about 394 tons of cargo was delivered, and more than 3,300 passengers were transported.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, and Japan flew in support of OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 25, Air Force, RAF and Singaporean tankers flew 34 sorties and off-loaded about 2.5 million pounds of fuel.
